JR's take: Richard Beymer (you know him best as Tony from West Side Story) is distracted all summer long by the presence of next-door neighbor Joanne Woodward, the stripper in question. You can love Joanne Woodward all you want (and who doesn't?), but it's hard to believe any red-blooded hetero boy would pass up the irresistible charms of 21-year-old Carol (whose most memorable line, regarding the heat, is "Fierce, isn't it?"). Slow and sad, the film is based on William Inge's A Loss of Roses.
Recurring names: Michael J. Pollard would appear in one of Carol's made-for-TV movies, 1968's The Smugglers.
